The H4H Foundation Story 2021

It is every child’s dream to go to Disneyland, “the happiest place on earth.” On April 4th, 2022, the H4H Foundation’s long time supporter, Nandini Chopra, sponsored a magical field trip

for 50 underprivileged children from Skyview School.  Over the years, I have accompanied numerous children from group homes, foster care, and other backgrounds to Disneyland. During these trips, I have personally witnessed countless transformative moments. I have seen children, who have endured unimaginable abuse, smile for the very first time. Through these experiences, I have come to understand the profound impact Disneyland can have on these young lives.

In the realm of Disney, I have witnessed children experiencing joy in its purest form. I have watched as they laugh, sometimes for the first time, and witnessed their hearts opening up to others. These moments have taught me that children in foster care can discover the simple pleasure of being a kid, of laughing and playing alongside their peers. No matter their age, it is never too late for them to embrace their inner child.

This is a gift that I, despite my extensive education, research, and studies, cannot single-handedly provide to a child. Disneyland, known as the happiest place on earth, holds a special kind of magic that brings unparalleled joy to our underprivileged children. Every time we bring our children to Disneyland, it becomes a form of play therapy for them, healing their wounds and allowing them to experience the transformative power of play and imagination.

Play therapy, a therapeutic approach with roots dating back to ancient times such as Plato’s era, aims to provide traumatized children with a safe outlet to express their emotional distress and trauma through play. When it comes to choosing a suitable environment for this therapeutic technique, what better place than Disneyland? Taking our foster children to Disneyland offers them not only an opportunity to express their emotions freely but also a chance to engage in joyful play. Witnessing the children’s awe and wonder at Disneyland enhances their overall experience.
